SUMMARY OF CRASH:
On January 12, 2012, at approximately 0929 hrs, Troopers from the Vermont State Police Barracks in Rutland responded to a one (1) car motor vehicle crash involving a water truck on US Route 4 in the town of Mendon, Vermont.

Upon arrival, Troopers found the vehicle involved to be a Belmont Springs bottled water truck on its passenger side.  The contents of the truck were spilled onto the roadway and were removed by good samaritans.

Through the investigation, it was found the truck was traveling west on US Route 4 when it started to slow down due to a vehicle turning into Casellas Office complex.  As the truck slowed, it began to slide on the icy roadway.  The vehicle rolled over onto its passenger side which caused the contents of the truck to shift to the roof. The force ripped the top of the truck off which spilled the contents on the roadway.  The driver was able to remove himself from the vehicle under his own power and was uninjured as a result.
Vermont Transportation and Mendon Town Highway applied sand to the roadway due to the spilled water from the truck which caused the highway to ice up further. Rutland City Fire Department, and Vermont Department of Motor Vehicle Inspectors assisted with the crash
