This is really concerning – not what we think of as our safe community. Break in’s during daytime hours when people are at home. Need to send a clear message that this won’t be tolerated.

Woodstock Police sent out some advisories about how to help cut down on these types of crimes including “Neighborhood Watch” type activities.
Vermont State Police are reporting more and more burglaries and attemped burglaries this winter, particularly in Bennington and Windham counties. It is unreasonable to believe that anyone or any community is exempt from these criminal activities; Witness the rash of burglaries in the Woodstock area last summer and Fall. There are those who refuse to lock their car doors or refuse to lock their house doors because “it shouldn’t be this way.” Given the facts of more criminal activity, this is simply not smart. In the case of the incident reported in this post, the presence of the dog scared off the perp. A dog is a simple but effective safety tool, even if not trained as a guard dog. Still, acting smart by clamping down on opportunities for crime is a good way to go. WEB
