Lightning Strike, Meteor or….UFO?

Woodstock Early Bird is investigating the source of a flash in the sky earlier this evening in the Woodstock area. While seasonally unusual, it may simply have been a lightning strike. However, enough people are reporting it to make it well…unusual…and for us to roust ourselves from feathered nests….BRRR….to investigate. We’ll let you know if we get any more info.

As the U.S. Geological Survey does with its Earthquake Shake Maps, we’d love to know if any Woodstock Early Birds saw this flash, felt it, and its approximate location. What seemed unusual about it?

Evening news just mentioned frequent meteor sightings across central VT. I would imagine that this is what you saw.

    I’ll bet on the meteor.

Driving home to Woodstock from Killington area, we had just come down the long hill and reached the “Killington Flats” ( near Goodro lumber ), when we saw a bright flash, lasting only as long as a camera flash. It lit up everything, and was white, not colored.
We knew right away that it was something special, and different, but no idea what.
I felt that it came from behind and above us, but can’t be positive about that. There were stars out, and no sound like thunder, although our windows were closed in the truck so again I can’t be sure. I am still wondering.

I saw a bright white flash on my way home, at about 10/10:30 last night in North Pomfret. Thought, at first, that it might’ve been lightning, but it looked different, as it seemed to be all around me instead of on one side or the other. Brushed it off, but upon checking Facebook later in the night, found several comments about it from the Woodstock/Barnard/Pomfret area, so clearly I was not the only one to see something out of the ordinary.
Would be very interested to hear more details on what it could have been.
