Still At It! PO’d about Planned PO Closures

Here in Douglas, Alaska (where WEB is temporarily roosted) folks who want to be able to keep a local post office in their community organized a rally this past week to ask Congress to make sure there is money to keep smaller post offices around the country operating.

Woodstock Early Bird’s Gareth Henderson covered the big meeting at the large White River Junction facility a month or so ago. But, the folks in White River Junction took it to their really local downtown WRJ post office yesterday to show support for what they emphasized is a postal SERVICE.     Perhaps if we all-I mean all-reminded the people in DC who are dong this that the Post Office has a bizarre requirement to PRE-fund pensions.

    The P.O. would not be in anywhere near dire straits if this were repealed.

      Totally agree, Peggy! I find it kinda’ unbelievable — yes — BIZARRE — the PRE-funding of the pensions was approved in the first place. Although I do think there is something to be said for running a business based on economies of scale…and, really, do we need Saturday service, could we just have morning hours…I’m sure folks would settle for less at their local post offices in order to keep these gathering places for community! It IS our defacto “water-cooler” WEB
