WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, Vt. –
Police in White River Junction are searching for a gunman in what they call a random and unprovoked attack.
It happened at the intersection of North and South Main Streets outside the Tuckerbox coffee shop around 9:45 p.m.
Witnesses saw a man lying on the sidewalk and another man fleeing the scene on foot.
The victim, Lucas DeVries, 26, of Hartford, said he’d given the man a friendly nod as he walked past, but the man shot him with a handgun. DeVries was struck by fragments of the bullet and is reportedly doing well.
Police say they tracked the suspect to a residence on Fairview Terrace but did not locate him there. But they do say they are actively pursuing leads.
