All Call: Fire Engulfs Home Near Deer Ridge Way

Woodstock Emergency Services/Public Safety Dispatch has informed us that a house fire earlier today was in an unoccupied home on Deer Ridge Way.

We have since learned that the fire was more accurately off a driveway between Deer Ridge Way and Gabert on Cox District Road, but NOT on Deer Ridge Way itself. (Thank you to two Woodstock Early Birds who clarified that information for us!)

Here are photos taken at the scene provided by the Woodstock Fire Department and the text of the press release:

Structure fire on Deer Ridge Way this afternoon was called in at 1300hrs.

Woodstock, South Woodstock, Pomfret, Teago, Bridgewater, Barnard and Hartford fire departments responded as well as the Woodstock Ambulance crew.

The house was fully engulfed upon arrival. No one was home at the time.

Tenants have been contacted by the Red Cross. The homeowners who live out of state were contacted.

We have had no word of injuries at this time and are awaiting more details from Fire Chief Butch Sutherland.

The house was rented by Jesse Filiault (local mason) and his wife. They are a hard-working couple with a young son. They have lost everything and will need help from our community to get back on their feet.

It is my understanding that the house was the residence of a young Woodstock couple with a young child. They lost their two dogs in the fire, along with all of their belongings.

I hope Woodstock residents will assist the family displaced by the fire. They are a hard working young family with a three year old child, and are lifelong residents of Woodstock, south Woodstock, and bridgewater. They will truly be starting over again.
