DAMAGE TO VEHICLE: Minor rear end damage

SUMMARY OF CRASH: Welch was operating an empty First Student school bus while travelling east on Bugbee Street. The bus was stopped awaiting to turn left to enter I91 North. Hodgdon was travelling east behind the bus.
Hodgdon was operating the vehicle while being electronically distracted and slammed into the rear of the bus at speed.
Members of the Hartford Fire Department advised that had Hodgdon not been wearing a seat belt, he probably would have been killed.

Maybe the kid will get smart about driving while texting (or cell talking). Lucky he’ alive. It will take many years, but someday. . . someday there will be universal ( i.e., federal) laws against any kind of electronic doodling while driving. It took decades for us to get smart about cigarettes, and this, too, will take years. When some congressman’s daughter gets killed by a driver who was texting, maybe then, finally, there will be some serious attention paid to this idiotic and dangerous habit. About every third time I drive on route 4 to or from WLeb or Hanover I get behind a car that is weaving over the line. As often as not, the driver is on a cell phone.
