From War: A Good Will Ambassador

Woodstock Early Bird enjoys meeting friendly dogs and their people on perambulations about the Village. Often, after a few sniffs and a pat on the head, the attention will turn to such issues as “What kind of dog is she?” Often, the reply is “Oh, she’s a rescue, we’re not sure…”

Always the owner is proud of the pooch. Woodstock Early Bird usually shrugs and thinks “That’s nice, plucked from down the road at Upper Valley Humane Society or Lucy McKenzie.” And that conversation ends. A rescue is routine…for the most part.

In this case: Meet Khieli, formerly known as Buttons. She is from Afghanistan. She was found cowering in buildings in Kabul. She is, indeed, a rescue dog. She has come a long way; driven by truck to Pakistan, flights to Germany and New York and Burlington. She is sweet and strong and loved. We met Khieli on the street. She was being walked and cared for by the wife of a military man who has since her rescue been re-deployed to Afghanistan.

We thought her story was a good one. To learn more visit www.thepuppyrescuemission.org.
