Woodstock Early Bird has obtained some information about a NEW plan to return the Barnard General Store to its former “OPEN” operating status”.The NEW plan involves enlisting the assistance of Historic Preservation folks and expansion of the Barnard Community Trust to help re-open the BGS..
Here is part of a report issued after yesterday’s meeting of a newly formed “Re-Boot BGS” group: (to contact: rebootbgs@googlegroups.com).
This report has been edited to remove still-under-negotiation dollar amounts that may lead to a full “green light” for BGS re-opening.
We understand that once a “deal” with the current owner and other entities is made, there will be a public meeting to review the “crystallized” details of the new plan.
MINUTES OF BGS MEETING – MAY 31, 2012
Rick Carbin chaired the meeting. He began by describing the meetings he and Tom Platner had over the last two weeks with John Snyder, Bill Twigg-Smith’s realtor and advisor. The result of these meetings was the establishment of a framework for purchase of the store property by the community.
Rick Carbin introduced Paul Bruhn, president of the Preservation Trust of Vermont who has worked with us in the past as a tax-exempt conduit for charitable contributions for this effort.
After a good discussion it was agreed to move ahead on the purchase.
Steps to follow are:
1. Negotiation through the Preservation Trust on behalf of the community toward a signed option-purchase agreement under the terms noted above.
2. The Barnard Community Trust, a non-profit organization established several years ago to work on this would be the local body to lead the project in partnership with the Preservation Trust of Vermont.
3. Expansion of the Barnard Community Trust board is necessary. This was accomplished with the following people volunteering as interim trustees: Teo Zagar, Tony Braca, Chris Piana, Tom Platner, Boyd Bishop, Dana Bargezi, Rick Carbin. Lee Resseguie, Mary Blanton, and Mary Myers.
