Help Pick New Glasses for Early Bird!

Eyes on Elm: 457-7227 http://www.eyesonelm.com

UPDATE: THE WINNER IS CLEARLY FRAME NUMBER ONE! THANKS WOODSTOCK EARLY BIRDS FOR THE INPUT!  -WEB

Woodstock Early Bird needs a new pair of glasses and we are so trillingly thrilled that we don’t have to go to West Lebanon anymore to find a great selection of frames since “Eyes on Elm” has opened. Who would think that picking out a new pair of glasses would actually be fun? I mean really, it has always been kinda’ a boring pain-in-the-you-know-what. However.  We feature here three selections made by Early Bird and seek your input!

We must welcome Eyes on Elm’s owner and optician Cary Agin and his whole family to Woodstock. They are interesting and fun and oh yeah, they are selling glasses frames in a lovely space filled with very cool frames if that’s what you’re after or traditional “let’s-get-‘er’done” frames that stay well-within-the-box.  Cary’s wife, Malena Florin, of Argentina origin, is also teaching Spanish here in town. They have an adorable two-year old girl named Orly. The Agin family even shared their delicious Argentinian dulce de leche cookies with us during a recent visit.  It feels like family as we have also “Met the Parents”!

Now here’s the deal with Cary. He will spend whatever time and discussion is needed to get you into a pair of glasses frames that will make your every living day delightful. As some have noted (his wife included) he can talk all day long about specifications or style whichever is of most interest to you. In Woodstock Early Bird’s case, he does NOT hold back with his opinion. Woodstock Early Bird was told in no uncertain terms that the round frame did NOT enhance her already ahem, cherubic, er, rosy, face. We were offered other options. We appreciate Cary’s brutal and quite helpful honesty. He wants us to look good!

What do you think?

BTW, Eyes on Elm, which has pretty much any glasses frame “line” you are looking for, participates in a program that donates glasses to those in need. You can read more about it at their website: www.eyesonelm.com. The store, on Elm Street, in the old Heaven Sent space, is open six days, closed Wednesdays.

I am sure it is nice to have brutal honesty when it comes to accessorizing or you may end up the object of pity. I believe that Frame #1 best suites from the photos provided. Since I don’t believe we have ever met, I am basing my opinion soley on your photos. I must admit that living in Houston, with my folks, grandmother and brother living in the Woodstock area, I am greatly appreciative of your blog and wish you a happy 1 year anniversary (a litle belated).

Kind of a tough choice, Julia! I’d have trouble deciding between Frame #1 and frame #2—but with a slight advantage going to #2
I just got some great glasses there myself, and am also happy Cary is right here in town.

Yup, frame #1 does suit you and has a classic look with a kind of jazzy feel. (I chose it before I read other comments). You will look just great!. Thanks for alerting us outlyers, who only park downtown when necessary, about new businesses. Welcome, Cary and family.

I vote for the hipper #2, but #1 is a very close second — you look good in both of ’em.

All great choices Julia! Tom, Hillary and I have all bought glasses from Cary and have known him since his days over in White River Junction. He is all about customer service and has a great “eye” for what looks good on anyone. We are sad to move to Virginia and leave him behind, might have to be a road trip when we need new frames.

Welcome to Cary and his family, a great addition to Woodstock!

Back to your original question…..I prefer #1 and Tom prefers #3….he says it makes you look more “journalistic” ISH!

Thanks for the input! I’m glad Tom appreciates the “journalistic-ish” look that Frame Number 3 represents! Best to you in Virginia. Is this something about which we need a post? WEB

I have been picking out glasses for a number of years. Go with #1 cherubic as you think your face may be, the other two are too heavy for your face.

BTW — Congrats on your 1st Anniversary! Love your posts!!

I like #1…but add some rhinestones to the corners and you would be truly styling!!

You know…Cary did offer up a pair of frames with little flowers and rhinestones — kinda’ “Heidi goes Bling” but we decided fun, but ultimately not wearable daily!

It might be the conservative choice but I went for #1. Now perhaps we should solicit funds for Early Bird to purchase her new glasses!

I was waffling between #1 and #2, but now I think I’ve settled on #1. I believe the lighter color goes better with your coloring. Full face pics would have helped me with the decision-making. I would avoid #3, definitely too heavy for you.

I believe I was one of Carey’s first customers when he opened the shop here in Woodstock. I had been looking for frames for about a year to no avail. When I saw that the shop was going to open I was thrilled. As soon as I saw he had actually opened his doors I stopped by and picked out some very cool frames. I was a little worried as they are colored and I thought they might get old quickly, but they are still looking great, even after I just made a radical hair change.

I think Eyes on Elm is a great addition to Woodstock and I very much appreciate not having to drive to the Valley to buy glasses. Good luck with your choice!

My vote is #1, although I, too, would have liked to see full face view…

Although I live in South Carolina, I’d also like to welcome Eyes On Elm for when I’m in Woodstock.

    Jules,

    None of ’em!

Take a page from Ashley Banfield and go with more of a ‘power bitch’ journalist style.

Her glasses were one of the few good things that came out of 9/11.
