VT Taking Pot Dispensary Applications

Woodstock Early Bird is proud to live in a state that makes an effort to provide relief from suffering through this program.

Note: In its report this morning (June 5, 2012) The Rutland Herald explains the law allows for just FOUR dispensaries in the State of Vermont.

PRESS RELEASE
Public Safety Announces Application for Marijuana Dispensaries Now Available

Waterbury, VT – 06/04/12 – The Vermont Department of Public Safety Commissioner Keith Flynn today officially announced that in accordance with provisions set forth in Title 18 Chapter 86, Vermont’s therapeutic use of cannabis, the department is now accepting marijuana dispensary applications. The rules for Vermont’s therapeutic use of cannabis, known as the Vermont Marijuana Program (VMP), are available online through the Vermont Criminal Information Center (VCIC).

The VMP rules include definitions of terms and identification of debilitating medical conditions for which the use of marijuana is authorized. They also include procedures for issuing a certificate of registration to a dispensary; registry identification cards to qualified patients, caregivers, staff of hospice providers and nursing facilities; and qualified principal officers, board members, and employees of dispensaries. The VMP rules also govern confidentiality, payments of fees, and enforcement of these rules.

To obtain rules and an application, please visit http://vcic.vermont.gov/marijuana_registry/marijuana_dispensaries.

The closing date for applications is June 22, 2012 at 4:30PM, and must be accompanied by the $2,500 application fee. Please mark submission envelopes with ‘Marijuana Dispensary Application’.

For questions regarding the application process or the VMP, please contact Jeffery Wallin, VCIC Director, at Jeffrey.Wallin@state.vt.us or at 802-241-5220.

Yeah! Why did it take so long?

Hopefully, Vermont’s program doesn’t turn into a thinly disguised excuse to sell pot for profit like what is happening in California. A lot of cities here ended up having to crackdown and close most of the so-called medical pot clinics… I hate to see Woodstock become the pot capital of Vermont.

There are very few who truly need pot to relieve pain…certainly not an excuse for any one with $2,500 to start a lucrative pot trade.

Xavier thanks for the comment. I think it will be important to keep an eye on the California “model”.

I do not cover the Vermont legislature but I’m assuming the related but not specific issues of addiction were raised.

In this case the subject is the regulated use of a known pain-killer.

Before anyone starts saying “there aren’t enough people in Vermont” to warrant the provision of cannabis for pain they should be forced to spend a week with ONE terminally ill cancer patient.

A bedside drawer of a regulated amount of marijuana is no different from a refrigerator drawer of a regulated amount of morphine often provided to cancer patients.

Oh, someone might make money off painkillers? Hmmm, can you say Merck, Bayer, Pfizer?

I have no doubt this program will be heavily watched by the Vermont legislature. Note that it is also being administered by the Dept. of Public Safety, ie law enforcement.

An important update that goes to Xavier’s concerns: The Rutland Herald notes the law approves the creation of just FOUR dispensaries in Vermont.

    Julia,

Thank you for the info….it eases my mind. I agree with you. I understand that pot is much easier on the body than morphine and it is not physically addictive. It is also a lot cheaper.

Maybe it is time to just legalize it in small quantities period.
