Ana DiNatale shows off a proposed Recycle Can Lid
The Woodstock Trustees have given their approval and financial backing to a pilot program to increase recycling via the placement of special recycling bins at key locations around the Village. There will be seven bins in which to place cans, glass and plastics.
At their regular meeting Tuesday, Trustees agreed to pay for the cost of the bins and the removal of the recyclables for four months (starting in July) at an estimated cost of the @$1300. The bins will be emptied on a regular schedule by Woodstock Recycling. The money will come out of a Trustees Contingency Fund.
The decision came after a quite professional and thorough presentation by Ana DiNatale who is an intern at Sustainable Woodstock this summer. She described the mission to improve the “green” flavor of the Village and to present ourselves as an environmental community. The recycle cans may also soon sport the lovely leaves stenciled on regular Village trash cans.
Town Manager Phil Swanson did make a suggestion for some additional “bonehead graphics” that would explain that TRASH is not to be dumped in the bins that have tops that look like they should just take cans and bottles. We believe this was along the lines of, “Just sayin’.”
