Woodstock Village Trustees last night approved the money and a permit for use of the Village Green on August 28th, 2012 for a community get-together dinner and dance as a way to remember the day, the damage and the recovery from Tropical Storm Irene.
More details about the event will be forthcoming as not all arrangements have been made. But mark your calendars and plan to attend. Village Trustees approved $1000 to put toward the planned public event.
Even last week, another story related to Irene Recovery. We got this report from the Woodstock Historical Society’s Jack Anderson:
Last Friday, a man walked into my office at the History Center and asked “what happened to the back yard?”
I explained about last summer’s tropical storm, and showed him pictures of the damage done to the lawn.
He told me that for the past few years, he and his girlfriend made it a point to travel from upstate NY to visit Woodstock and while here, buy sandwiches at George’s and have lunch on the picnic table by the river at 26 Elm Street.
I told him that the picnic table, as well as all the trees and a big section of riverbank, had gone downstream.
“I’ll get you another one,” he told me.
Britton’s delivered the table on Tuesday, and it is set on the flat area by the Ottauquechee among the newly planted trees.
Woodstock Early Bird stopped for lunch at the picnic table yesterday and while dining on a George’s sandwich enjoyed the view of the Covered Bridge, Mt. Tom , the beautiful greens of Vermont and what is — once again- a peaceful setting along the banks of the now lazily-flowing Ottauquechee.
