Dog Attack Folo

We’ve heard from a Woodstock Early Bird that following an attack by a dog on the Early Bird’s dog in the Rose Hill area, an owner has come forward to take responsibility for the dog’s actions. We applaud them for their honesty and assistance with resolving the matter.

The incident  (previously reported here) does — once again — bring up the issue that all we dog owners need to be exceedingly mindful that while we may think our pups are perfectly well-behaved and “okay” with one and all, the animal world sometimes tells us differently – which is why leashes, good fencing and mindfulness are helpful ways of keeping “Bad things from happening to good people” – or bad things happening to good dogs…(Yes, we’re pretty sure that was a book title).

As many know, Woodstock Early Bird herself  and her dog had a very unfortunate incident occur when she let the dog off leash near a Village road. The dog’s zeal to leap over to greet another dog across the road resulted in her dog being hit.  It was a year and a half and many dollars later before “order” was adequately restored to a broken leg and severely compromised lower hock.

Here is the Woodstock Early Bird’s report concerning the attack:

The Early Bird whose dog was attacked by another dog about a week ago reports a happy ending — or as happy an ending as these things can have, anyway. The Early Bird’s dog is healing well, although he still has a limp. The Early Bird met with the dog’s highly apologetic and remorseful owner, who is paying the full cost of the veterinary bills (reaching upwards to $1000!) and taking action to make sure it will not happen again.

The dog had broken through its electric fence because it didn’t have its shock collar on and had been roaming the Willow Brook/Rose Hill neighborhood when the attack occurred. The Early Bird had been walking her dog properly on a leash.

Incidentally, several months earlier a huge Great Dane came charging across River Road at this same Early Bird as the Early Bird was walking the dog on a leash. The Great Dane’s owner was able to get her dog under control and told the Early Bird that it had gotten through the electric fence because it didn’t have its collar on.
