Some Woodstock Early Bird love to bask in the hot heat and humidity of summer…You know much like we have this Sunday morning…Oh, about 63 percent humidity with temps rising to high 80’s and low 90’s. We meet these folks every day. They are light on their feet, look cheerful and rarely break a sweat. Other Birds such as this one: Not so much. Some of us are good with a breezy 75 degrees. Really no need to go much hotter! We deal, but really we’re Northern birds who just aren’t acclimated properly to the tropical weather…
All of this a preamble to let you know of a changing weather pattern this afternoon and evening. We could talk pressure troughs and such but will leave that to the weather people. Here’s an early morning report from the National Weather Service in Burlington (BTW, listening right now to the August summers-a-waning cicadas, are you?):
THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR NORTHERN NEW YORK…CENTRAL
VERMONT…NORTHEAST VERMONT…NORTHWEST VERMONT AND SOUTHERN
VERMONT.
.DAY ONE…TODAY AND TONIGHT.
STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ARE FORECAST THIS AFTERNOON AND
NIGHT AS A COLD FRONT APPROACHES FROM THE GREAT LAKES. THESE
STORMS WILL MOVE INTO THE SAINT LAWRENCE VALLEY EARLY SUNDAY
AFTERNOON…ACROSS THE ADIRONDACKS…AND INTO THE CHAMPLAIN
VALLEY BY LATE AFTERNOON/EARLY EVENING. STORMS WILL CONTINUE EAST
ACROSS VERMONT THIS EVENING…HOWEVER THE RISK FOR SEVERE WEATHER
WILL BEGIN TO DIMINISH AFTER SUNSET.
THE MAIN THREAT FROM THESE STORMS WILL BE DAMAGING WINDS IN
EXCESS OF 58 MPH…WITH HAIL A SECONDARY THREAT. THE STORMS WILL
ALSO PRODUCE VERY HEAVY RAINFALL…AND AREAS THAT ARE HIT
REPEATEDLY ARE AT RISK OF FLASH FLOODING. STORMS WILL GENERALLY
MOVE FROM THE SOUTHWEST TO NORTHEAST AT 30 TO 40 MPH.
THE STORMS WILL FORM IN WARM UNSTABLE AIR AHEAD OF A STRONG COLD
FRONT. THE FRONT WILL LAG BEHIND THE STORMS BY A FEW
HOURS…MOVING INTO NORTHERN NEW YORK LATE IN THE DAY AND EXIT
EASTERN VERMONT BY MONDAY MORNING.
