VT. Attorney General in Woodstock Seeking Re-Election

Current Vermont Attorney General Bill Sorrell is campaigning around the State — including a visit to Woodstock today — seeking re-election to his post on Tuesday, August 28th. That is the day of the Democratic Primary, coming up in just two weeks. Sorrell was making the rounds of the Taste of Woodstock street festival with his campaign manager sampling food and doing meet-and-greets with those who know him and those who don’t.

Three points on a campaign flyer given out at Taste of Woodstock: “Fighting to Keep Vermont Clean”, “Fighting to Keep Vermont Safe” and “Fighting to Keep Vermont Healthy”

During a brief chat he cited his experience as a criminal prosecutor and his work helping to combat internet pornography and elder scams. Here is a recently re-printed article concerning Sorrell and his opponent from The Bennington Banner:

Sorrell said he studied the use of Tasers following an incident in Brattleboro several years ago. His report concluded that Tasers are “a lethal weapon,” but “certainly less lethal than firearms.” A clear policy is necessary to prevent the abuse of Tasers, but they can “save lives when used by a trained officer,” he said.

“It’s a weapon. You’re not allowed to use a billy club against someone that is non-violent and sitting there,” Sorrell said.

This is a quote from the Brattleboro article mentioned above. Hmm; does mr. Sorrell know about the Hartford police use of a billyclub and pepper spray on a man sitting down in his own home ?!!!!
    I’d like to know

Yes, Peggy, and let’s not forget about poor Mr Macadams in Thetford who recently died after having been Tasered. Our police need better training, so we can reduce what has begun to appear as a trigger happy “enforcement” system.
