As of August 23rd, Vermont has experienced 53 fatalities in 47 crashes, approximately double the number from this time last year.

The Vermont State Police in conjunction with local and county law enforcement agencies will be participating in DUI Checkpoints and Saturation Patrols throughout Windham and Windsor Counties from 08/31/12 through 09/03/12 in support of the Governors Highway Safety Program.
These agencies will be conducting aggressive motor vehicle enforcement, to apprehend impaired operators and target aggressive driving with a goal to reduce crashes.
Enforcement will include vehicle check points and saturation patrols.
Note: We didn’t know what “saturation patrols” are so we called WPD but no one was available to explain, so we went to Wikipedia:
A saturation patrol is a police or military patrol tactic wherein a large number of officers are concentrated into a small geographic area[1]. Saturation patrols are used for hot-spot crime reduction[2], DUI checkpoints, and other location-specific patrols. The methodology employs overwhelming force presence, via large concentration of patrol officers, to create a real or perceived omnipresence[2], in the hopes that it deters crime inside and outside the actual patrol location
