“Mittens” Day Two: Romney Jumps VT Ship for NH

Woodstock Early Birds we are sorry to have to report that the Republican Nominee for President of the United States, Mitt Romney, has left the Healey compound on Rush Meadow Road and, rather than spending his lunchtime mingling with us here, he has headed straight for New Hampshire!

Upon leaving the Healey’s property, the motorcade did not stop and there was no waving or chatting with those waiting outside the gates. Just a purposeful exit with a New Hampshire destination in mind.

Presidential candidate Mitt Romney leaves the Healy property in Vermont, heading for campaigning in New Hampshire

Harumph.

Can you believe it?

That’s just the way it goes: Enjoy Vermont’s beautiful scenery and then go across to New Hampshire for your schmoozing.

The votes worth getting are apparently over at a hardware store in West Lebanon. We Vermonters, with our overwhelming vote for the Democratic Presidential ticket last election, are apparently “chopped livah.”

You’d think that in this land of Joseph Smith, a founding Mormon who helped populate Utah, that we would at least get some thanks for the good Vermont stock we provided.

We can also report that just two members of the general public have appeared outside the Healey driveway hoping for a glimpse of Mr. Romney. Let’s just say the interest in his stay here has not been overwhelming:

1.  One Romney supporter from Rutland

2. One curious neighbor whose primary home is Bermuda.

Otherwise it’s just the national press convoy ferried about in three big black limo buses and a lot of Vermont State Police and Secret Service.

Fox News, we noticed,  continued to be on scene at the Woodstock Inn today having been, er, removed from the Village Green.

Fox News changed locations today, apparently no longer welcome to set up camp on the Woodstock Village Green.

The National Press all had to be thoroughly searched and a bomb-sniffing dog went through their gear before they loaded up for the motorcade to New Hampshire

Mitt should have saved his gas money. We’re from Vermont, we do what we want! The only time that this State changes colors is during foliage!

Then that does it. I’m voting for Obama.

As the owner of a small business that employs several women, significant issues for me are access to healthcare and womens’ reproductive rights. Ignoring all other issues for the moment (and just a moment) the candidates’ stand on these two issues are sufficient for me to make a clear choice.

I heard a rumor Mitt was actually burying his tax returns in Mason jars on the Healey property.

Too bad he hasn’t had time to take a robotic stroll about West Windsor and enjoy the height of the trees.

Why in the world of Vermont politics and recent history would it be a surprise that there’s no traction for the Reps to be gained here? Is it not a foregone conclusion that the incumbent has a major lock in les montagnes vertes?

Romney came here for a free spell.
Not a vote to be had, no one to sell.

Chances here are dimmer than dim.
No one wants to listen to him.

But not to worry, we still have Bernie
To pay us heed on his campaign journey.

And then there’s always Mister Shumlin.
But all his rhymes drop a B and a G.

There’s no way I’m voting for a guy who will only continue the evil policies of the George Bush era: continued war in Afghanistan, keeping Guantanamo open, using drones to kill innocents by aerial attack, furthering our loss of liberties through continuance of the Patriot Act…. so sorry, even though I have lots of women friends, am married to one and even had one for mother, there’s no way I’m voting for President Obama. He’s like Bush 2. I’ll cast my vote for Gary Johnson, the only guy left in the running who would oppose the above policies. Wake up ye blind followers of the National Public Radio and FoxNews.
