Some folks are unhappy with Woodstock Early Bird’s “castigating” Romney Visit posts and comments because OMG she expressed political opinion.
We’re happy to say we wrote exactly what we intended to write in exactly the tone we set out to write. And there will always be more.
Anyone who hasn’t picked up on the fact that Woodstock Early Bird has ALWAYS been a fact-based blog written with a point-of-view has certainly missed the bus.
We have no delusions that anyone will always agree or even mostly agree with what we write. But we will continue to write with a personal point-of-view.
For those who would like to continue reading about what they know best: the opinions of middle-aged conservative men (really it’s more like a forum for “Grumpy Old Men”) we refer you to several columns available in the Vermont Standard every week.
Woodstock Early Bird offers an alternative.
We thank those who appreciate that difference and continue to support us.
We understand and appreciate different points of view delivered respectfully in comment sections.
Update: The writer of a comment that was posted below has asked that it be removed from this post, which Woodstock Early Bird has done.
Privately we have explained that since Woodstock Early Bird puts out her opinions for public view, commenters views will also be posted for the public to see.
A reminder that the policy of this blog is no anonymous comments. We need both a first and last name or an identifiable email address or comments will not be posted. WEB

I myself do not like his robotic manner and perfectly sculpted hairdo. But
that’s irrelevant, like putting money he earned into an offshore bank
account.
Who among us would not invest wherever a safe high return is
legally possible?
Sorry Mr Lorenz, the other 99% think, if your running for Pres. you should be investing in America, not hiding your money in offshore banks to avoid being taxed.

You go indeed! If there is one thing that irks me more than people putting money out of side in off-shore tax havens (Municipal Bonds are tax free and could help local communities), it is those who don’t understand why they should pay local education taxes because they don’t have children in school now or ever. Whether you reside here full time or part time we need educated people to provide services that we depend on….ambulance and emergency medical services come immediately to mind. If one doesn’t want to pay to educate people here, perhaps they should call Florida for an ambulance in an emergency. We won’t have any smart people here to help you!

I am puzzled by this comment because I said I was NOT complaining about paying taxes for education here. And, of course, I am also paying in Florida for the same purpose. Without complaint.

Three comments: (1) For Mr. Lorenz: I don’t think too many of us thought that Romney himself was responsible for the piled boxes. Let’s employ a little common sense here. (2) For Carol B: There seems to be some confusion as to gender — I assume Maury is a “Mr.” — hence “You Go Girl” may be a misfire. (3) I am a left-leaning Independent, voted for Obama, will again, and detest everything the current GOP stands for, but I admit I was a teeny bit taken aback at the political slant of some recent posts.

Folks might be surprised to know Mr. Obama would have gotten the same coverage as Mr. Romney given similiar circumstances. Has to do with the subtleties and lasting impressions of such a visit.
Mostly this has not been a political blog as we don’t usually have much going on of a political nature in Woodstock. But when a national politician swoops into town, we’re not going to ignore it.
Also, as always, you’re going to get the impression of one reporter whose blog you may read. It is one person’s point of view. Disagreement or dissatisfaction is perfectly acceptable. At least Woodstock Early Birds knew something was going on and that we DO have a point of view.
We apologize if that was shocking to anyone. And lest you make any assumptions about our politics, you may be surprised by your assumptions in the future.

Wow – keep on keepin’ on – I love to read the Woodstock Early Bird, and I am not from Woodstock, but I agree with the comment about the fresh new approach. Good Job! I have just started my own blog and it is a lot of work. Controversy means that you are succeeding and making people think and discuss. I have cited your blog on my own blog at http://www.connecticutrivervalley.blogspot.com/. I started out with The Fort at Number 4, as a beginning topic for Upper Valley History. I found out that Oliver Farnsworth, the first English baby born in the Upper Valley, left Charlestown, NH as an adult to become one of the first settlers of Woodstock. I spent quite a bit of time in the upstairs “Vermont” room at your library – it is beautiful and overwhelmingly full of resources.

As long as commenters get to balance out the point-of-view of the Early Bird based on their view of ‘facts’, who could argue. In fact it’s kind of refreshing to have a local medium that’s not pretending to be ‘fair and balanced’. Though I know where Maury is coming from, if we had to hear one more time the salient fact of how much the Healey property was worth, I’d pack up and move to Florida…. Maybe one day we can have an in-depth analysis of Governor Shumlin’s property holdings and foreign bank account history. If not in the WEB, perhaps some member of the Vermont media that serves ‘middle-aged conservative men’. Oh wait. there isn’t any! Guess that’s over in New Hampshire with the pizza.
WEB Response:
Hunter, happy to have commenters “balance out” Early Bird’s points-of-view. Keeps things interesting. You do so particularly well!
You know, when we made the reference to “middle-aged (white) conservative men” we were actually trying to be diplomatic and kind! What really came to mind was actually something less political, providing readers with a link to that movie: “Grumpy Old Men!” But, what would we do without them….
Also, it would seem that if presented with a candidate for President of the USA and the opportunity to speak with him, it would make sense for Woodstock Early Bird to ask “politically-charged” questions. He is a politician, yes, with the potential for quite a bit of world power?
Believe me, if we had gotten the opportunity for a chat we would NOT be the least bit concerned about Candidate Romney’s choice of pizza or where the press that covers him recycles their boxes!
Also, we’re fine with folks investing in luxury real estate in this community. Their investments benefit many of us and their presence personally assists Woodstock Early Bird with paying her bills.

It’s interesting that nobody has picked up on the fact that “Mr. Healy”( a la Maury Lorenz) is actually former Mass. Lt. Gov. “Ms” Healy. Just a footnote….

We’ll have to introduce you to “Nom de Plume” some day.
Indeed she confessed to being quite confused so we took down her confusing posts. Thank God you tried to steer her clear!
Woodstock Early Bird tried to explain all the “players” to her in this now very stale and moldy story but gave up and had a beer!

I cannot get enough of this thread. It is delicious. It is as if ‘ The Mad Hatter” in ‘Alice in Wonderland’ met ‘Who’s on First?’ Reading it is both sublime and ridiculous. Please, everyone , keep it up. (note to Lance- how about wearing the Emporer’s new clothes?) And to Julia- even I may have had a beer- and I do not drink!
