This and That…Fire in the Sky?

Update: We have since learned that the Woodstock Inn and Resort had NOT been informed about the wedding party’s plans to launch lit lanterns from an outdoor area at the Inn.

We had a “tip” and an inquiry from a Woodstock Early Bird last night (actually a Late Bird) who was wondering if a hot-air balloon had ascended from the Woodstock Inn as there was something fire-filled that she detected from her window within a very close proximity to her High Street property.

We suspected and confirmed that it might have had to do with a Woodstock Inn wedding, as WEB had seen a marvelous Fresian horse trotting around a bride and groom in carriage earlier that afternoon.

We spoke with the Woodstock Inn representative who confirmed that a wedding party had set off several lit lanterns in a tradition the couple or the family have. It was NOT a hot-air balloon, although it was something we might call unusual in our normally clear skies.
And, turns out, there was more than one mini-balloon lit up and launched.

We had another “tip” today of a fire in West Bridgewater, perhaps at a former business,  but were not able to confirm said fire from either Woodstock Dispatch nor from VSP Rutland Dispatch. Calls were made to Bridgewater Fire and Killington Fire representatives but we were not able to get through. So, for the moment, as State Department spokespeople always say, “We have nothing for you on that.”  We will update if we do get any information to confirm or deny said “tip.”
