St. Albans, VT – 3/28/2011 – On March 29, 2013, the Sûreté du Québec (Quebec Provincial Police), Vermont and New York State Police, Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles, and US Border Patrol will participate in a joint traffic enforcement initiative “Operation Traffic Safety without Borders”.  This operation will begin on Good Friday; kicking off Easter weekend in anticipation of increased traffic for both inbound and outbound travelers between Vermont and Quebec.

The initiative will take place on Friday, March 29 between 10AM and 6PM. The area will consist of border areas in Franklin, Grand Isle, and Orleans counties, with an emphasis on major corridors, such as Interstate 89 and 91, US Routes 7 and 2, and Vermont Route 105; as these areas have the highest volume and concentration of international traffic.

“High visibility aggressive traffic enforcement can influence driving behavior and reduce traffic crashes and detect criminal activity,” said Captain Robert Evans, Assistant Field Force Commander. “The Vermont State Police look forward to working with our neighboring law enforcement agencies during this initiative.”
