Vermont State Police Staged to Assist Massachusetts Law Enforcement

Waterbury, VT – 04/19/13 – The Vermont State Police, in conjunction with its local and county law enforcement partners, continue to maintain a heightened state of awareness in Vermont. As such, the Vermont Information and Analysis Center is operating with a full contingent of personnel to process requests for criminal justice information and crime intelligence. The Vermont State Police has also staged a Tactical Support Unit vehicle in Brattleboro in the event there is a request to assistant authorities in the investigation into Monday’s bombing at the Boston Marathon or to cover emergency calls for service in need of tactical support in Massachusetts. The vehicle and personnel were staged at the request of the Massachusetts State Police; through NESPAC, the New England State Police Administrators Compact.

In addition, Vermont State Police received a call this morning from a motorist traveling northbound on Interstate 89 who was concerned about a Boston area taxi cab traveling 40-45 mph in the passing lane. The driver was contacted on the interstate near Williston and there was no indication of any connection to events in Boston.

The Vermont State Police remind Vermonters to report suspicious activity to local law enforcement or in the case of emergency call 911.
