Residents of Liberty Farm Rd. heard screeching and a bang just after 6am this morning. IImmediately at least four individual neighbors rushed down the hill to Route 4 in a dense morning river fog.
One of the neighbors, a Woodstock Ambulance EMT, along with her husband, immediately rushed to the assistance of two occupants in a car.
Another neighbor, who asked that his name not be used, started directing traffic on Rt. 4. He said the fog was so thick you could barely see across the road.
He says the driver of a small box truck was able to get out and was on the river bank. It is not known if he was transported to DHMC but police report his injuries were not serious.
This particular Liberty Farm Road resident is so disturbed by the fatal incident today and other Rt 4 accidents that he burst out in anger while talking to Woodstock Early Bird, “This road is a slaughter house.”
He added of the immediate need to do something about Rt. 4, “Chittenden County doesn’t need all that road money. We have to have it!”
This Liberty Farm Road resident says there have been at least three or four bad accidents on Rt. 4 below his home over the years he has lived there, including another fatal one.
This one has put him over the edge, “You can bet if one of our State representatives, McCormack, Campbell Alison Clarkson or Pete Shumlin was in that car, this road would be fixed.”
He thinks the three communities of Bridgewater, Woodstock and Hartford should come together and demand the road be fixed.
