Um, headline all tongue in cheeks, dears, all tongue in cheek. Birds getting overexcited about this week’s signing of Vermont new pot decrim law — it is STILL illegal! DOH!
But we digress…
We had a Quechee Early Bird in the new River Stone’s Restaurant in Quechee last night and said Bird brought us the menu, along with a rave review for his crab cake plate known as “Rock Crab Duet” described on said menu as “Crabcakes and a Sweet Chili Crab Salad, Wasabi Cocktail Sauce.” We’re in.
Oh, and, for those who lamenting the lack of the apparently Boston-Daily Catch-famous Buttermilk flash-fried calamari that we hoped would be on the Bentley’s menu, it is HERE, NOW, at River Stone’s. Right up there on the “apps” menu. Along with. Fried green tomatoes, steamed mussels, ROASTED VEGETABLE NACHOS (Okay, now, something for our rather bored palates…) Nice touch. Will try.
Soups include this interesting selection: “Aunt Mary’s Cannelini bean, pepperoni, and swiss chard soup” Hmmm. Sounds Italian to me. Not to mention perfect for some Woodstock Early Birds who seem to have embraced a new trendy diet based solely on massive eating of BEANS and CHICK PEAS.
We also heard from Quechee Early Bird that the lamb au poivre was nicely done. Excellent news!
Still, in an ode to Fire Stones (and a good use for the massive oven), River Stones is still offering pizzas, which ALL looks like combos’ worth savoring. We are SO HOPEFUL this morning!
Helpful for those of us who are rather clunky with our Italian culinary knowledge, the menu includes a glossary of terms, although no pronounciation guide. Alas.
(Super secret tip which we are following…A new Chef for sisterly or brotherly Bentleys?)
