We asked Village Trustees and Municipal Manager Phil Swanson what the best source of immediate information will be if we get into an emergency situation with regard to flooding. We were told last night that should a road wash-out or there be some other emergency, news of it will be posted to a Twitter feed for Town of Woodstock "@woodstockvtgov" Woodstock Police "@woodstockpolice" or the Woodstock Police Facebook page. Eventually, the Town of Woodstock website should be update-able by municipal employees but is not at this time by anyone other than the webmaster. Of course, Woodstock Early Bird always tries to get you info, but it is always good to know some other direct sources of official information. You can always have your questions answered by an Emergency Services dispatcher via a non-emergency telephone number: 802-457-1420. Understand they are may be extremely busy and have to ask you to wait if your call is not regarding an imminent threat. From the National Weather Service: 444 AM EDT WED JUL 10 2013 ...FLASH FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM NOON EDT TODAY THROUGH THIS EVENING... THE FLASH FLOOD WATCH CONTINUES FOR * THE NORTHERN ADIRONDACKS OF NEW YORK...THE ENTIRE CHAMPLAIN VALLEY...AND THE REMAINDER OF VERMONT. * FROM NOON EDT TODAY THROUGH MIDNIGHT TONIGHT. * NUMEROUS SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP DURING THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING HOURS AS A SURFACE FRONT APPROACHES THE AREA. STORMS WILL LIKELY DEVELOP OVER THE NORTHERN ADIRONDACKS BY EARLY AFTERNOON AND MOVE NORTHEAST AS WELL AS INCREASE IN AREAL COVERAGE ACROSS VERMONT THROUGH THE REMAINDER OF THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING HOURS. THE STORMS WILL BE RELATIVELY SLOW MOVING AND WITH ABUNDANT MOISTURE IN THE ATMOSPHERE...VERY HEAVY DOWNPOURS PRODUCING FLASH FLOODING WILL BE POSSIBLE. * IMPACTS FROM ANY FLASH FLOODING WILL BE WASHED OUT OR FLOODED ROADS...FIELD FLOODING...RAPID RISES AND OR FLOODING ON SMALLER RIVERS AND STREAMS...FLOODED CULVERTS AND BASEMENTS...AND A THREAT TO PERSONAL SAFETY IF YOU GET TOO CLOSE TO FLOODED AREAS.

We could do better on emergency notification, (both Town & Village). Hartford has a system called CodeRed, go to link:

Claremont, NH also has it. Apparently, it is not that expensive to implement. Seems like we would have something like this in place after Irene………
