The dog hit on Rt. 4 is in shock and undergoing xrays. The dog’s owner says a couple who saw the dog get hit reported it was a Red RAV4 heading West. Apparently the dog was dragged for a bit and the driver did stop – according to the reporting couple -for a peripheral check of the RAV vehicle and continued on.
The dog wandered into nearby woods and then collapsed on a neighbor’s lawn where a neighbor found it and alerted the owners and police.

The dog’s back was broken in the accident. No word on whether he will have to be put down. The owner says she is heart-broken. WEB

Please say a prayer for Gus (our dog). He has a broken back. If you ever hit an animal, please stop. It could save the animal’s life. And it helps the owners grieve…

Gus has gone to heaven. We have lost our beloved dancing dog. We are grief stricken . Thank you for all your good thoughts and please promise that if you ever hit a dog ( or cat ) you will do the right thing and stop. Accidents happen but how you respond to what you’ve done can make all the difference. Please please please always remember that .

So, so sorry Careen. And you are so right about stopping if you hit an animal you know is most likely someone’s beloved family member. I once stopped when the car in front of me hit a cat in front of a house and kept going. I know the people at the house thought I’d hit their cat when I knocked on the door to tell them about it, but at least I felt better about taking the time to inform them so they could go and look for the cat and see if it needed medical attention or had been killed.
Again, so very sorry for your loss.

My thoughts are with you and your family.
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….
