Hartford Names New Public Safety Director

Hartford, Vermont’s Town Manager has announced the naming of its first public safety director, a new role to be assumed by Steve Locke.

We are in receipt of this news from Town Selectman F.X. Flinn
Hartford includes the Quechee community.

This is an except from a letter sent to the Seletboard:

“…the Town will be experimenting with the concept of utilizing a Public Safety Director to provide administrative oversight for our public safety operations, more specifically Police, Fire and Communications services.

In short, this change will provide us with the opportunity to offer consistent management across department lines, allow existing staff to focus on and have a role in implementing significant changes within the departments including but not limited to national accreditation, community policing and last but not at all least, the planning and development of in-house staff to assume leadership positions within these departments.

This change also allows us to reduce some of our overhead and the related costs during a time when the Town is facing significant fiscal challenges.

Effective 2/3/13 Steve Locke will be assuming the role of Public Safety Director.

At this same time, Captain Vail is being promoted to the position of Deputy Chief and will be in charge of uniformed operations.

Acting Chief Roberts will be returning to his position as Deputy Chief and will be responsible for non-uniformed or administrative activities within the Department…”
