Good morning Early Birds…We found some of the Vermont State Police tactical team “at the ready,” waiting for access to Woodstock Union High School this morning. They are some of the estimated 40 people participating in an “active shooter” training that Woodstock Police Department is hosting.
Elsewhere in the Village, we ran into Woodstock Emergency Services Chief Butch Sutherland, who says fire and rescue are not part of today’s “ops.” However, Sutherland was off to the Town Hall to help interview candidates for a new Paramedic/Ambulance Director.
We are told by Town Manager Phil Swanson that whoever is chosen for this important position (including managing a budget larger than the police department’s) will have ample training from outgoing Director Pat Cassidy.
We hear that a couple of the Ambulance Director candidates — who if they are not yet paramedics, must be able to qualify for training (EMT-III level) — are locals known to one and all. Watch this space.
We will keep you posted. Tactical training at the High School this morning. Expect some activity around the Woodstock Elementary School this afternoon, according to police sources.
